Page titles and meta descriptions for Shopify stores and ecommerce stores on any other platform tend to follow a formula. We’ve pre-written some suggestions for you that you can copy and paste into the generator below.
How to Use This Tool
We’ve created formulas and examples below for you to follow. Copy the formula that you like into the generator below and then replace the variables with your own data. The generator will tell you how many characters of space you’ve used so you’ll know whether you should add or subtract text.
Rules of Thumb
A couple of things to keep in mind as your write page titles and meta descriptions.
- The page title is an SEO ranking factor, so it’s important to use keywords appropriately here.
- Pipes, |, and dashes, -, are equivalent in Google’s eyes, so go with whatever your preference is. Personally, we prefer dashes because they create a cleaner looking SERP.
- Your meta description is your best chance to encourage searchers to click your search result instead of the others on the SERP, so make it stand out with a strong call to action. I like to think of a meta description as a form of ad copy.
- It’s better to be too short than too long. Titles or descriptions that are too long will be truncated in the search results, like in this example:
Product Pages
The goal of a product page, from an SEO standpoint, is to get the attention of people searching for that specific product. Here we’re looking for people searching for “white Nike Air 7000” as opposed to “Nike shoes”. Don’t be afraid to get specific.

Collection Pages
Collection pages are the ecommerce SEO workhorses. For the majority of stores, this is where your organic traffic should flow. Here you’re targeting people searching for “Nike shoes” instead of “white Nike Air 8000”.
